False Dichotomy is beginning to truly take form! I have artists agreeing to show, essays coming in from respected members of the fine art printmaking community, and a site in place! There is a lot to do: I have to find funding to print a decent catalog–but I feel so renewed. I have not been able to make a lot of work myself this year, but I can contribute through facilitation and research!
I am developing and curating a pop-up show in May/June 2016 at the Gowanus Studio Space called False Dichotomy: Printmaking / High Technology. The show centers on fine art printmaking that intersects, depends upon, and even conquers high technology. I am recruiting artists who use data, sensors, alternate processes, wearables, and other technologies to produce multiples, texts, and other sorts of editions. I will also be producing a catalog with an essay or two from significant sources, but those details are most certainly in the works as I am calling in a lot of good karma in the community.

Stand Out Prints 2014 Highpoint’s International Juried Exhibition September 5, 2014 – October 4, 2014 Juror Susan Tallman, art historian and Editor-in-Chief of Art in Print remarked, “The prints chosen for this show exhibit a particular kind of attention to locations and moments in time, like a finger urgently pointed to say, “here.” This quality flies in the face of what we know about our world—the exponential proliferation of pixels without location, images without context, places without substance. But printed matter has always had a magical ability to be both here and there, a thing you hold and a thing you hold in mind. That is what these prints capture.”
Push and Pull: A Collaborative Exhibition with the Los Angeles Printmaking Society was on display from July 26 to September 12, 2014. The LA Printmaking Society and the City of Brea Gallery co-sponsored this exhibition featuring fine art printmaking entries juried by Dr. Frank Ellsworth from LAPS members and artists from across the country.
